2015 Board of Directors
Ramona Soccer League's annual public meeting took place at the Ramona Community Center on Monday, 12/8. Elections were held for the 2015 board and we're happy to report that we've added a couple of new board members. Go to our Board of Directors page to see all the great volunteers that will be running Ramona Soccer League for the next year.
Breast Cancer Awareness Days
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. Ramona Soccer League did their part by encouraging players to wear pink for the first two weekends of October. Players wore pink headbands, face paint, ribbons and even colored their hair pink! Some of the Intra teams stepped it up by purchasing a full set of pink uniforms to really show their support.
Can you believe we're about to start our 35th season of fall soccer? We kick it all off with a big party called Opening Ceremonies on Friday, August 22 at 6:00 PM at the soccer fields. Not only will the teams show off their uniforms for the first time, but there will be plenty of activities and food to keep the whole family entertained!
Food will be available to buy as all our Intra players will be manning their own booths to raise money for their respective teams. The league will also be selling nachos, popcorn, carne asada and more. We'll even have the Kona Ice truck on hand to beat the heat!
For our silent auction, each team has put together a basket of goodies on which you can bid, so there will be many deals to be had, including a $1,000 family picture package!
So grab the whole family and your appetite and we'll see you at Opening Ceremonies this Friday!
Registration for the fall season is CLOSED for all divisions. Here is the schedule for the rest of the fall season...
- Opening ceremonies: August 22
- First game: 8/23/14 (8/24/14 for adults)
- Picture day: 9/6/14 (just prior to your game)

Intra BU14 Tournament of Champions Winners
Marco Sanchez is only in his first year of coaching Intra's Boys U14 team, but so far he's doing an amazing job. This past weekend Sanchez rallied the boys for a trip to La Jolla for the Tournament of Champions. Not only did they end up making their first tournament final, but they won that game and took home the championship trophy!
The team started strong Saturday morning with a 1-0 victory over the Breakers with Dustin Baker scoring the game’s only goal. However, Dustin wasn’t finished scoring for the day. He added another goal in their second game versus Temecula United. Jimmy Cheney and PJ Scholl also added goals to give Ramona a 3-1 win. Sunday morning pitted the team against LA Galaxy South Bay. LA Galaxy got a break with a penalty kick that resulted in a goal and it carried them to a 2-1 win over Ramona. Emerson Fuentes put Ramona’s only goal into the net.
Despite the loss, Ramona still qualified for the finals to be played Sunday evening. The good news is that Ramona would once again be meeting up with LA Galaxy South Bay giving them a chance to avenge their loss earlier in the day. After a long weekend, it was evident that the boys were worn out, but they were able to do just enough to get the win and go home with the championship as Aaron Castro put in the one and only goal of the game to give Ramona a 1-0 victory. The smiles on the boys faces were something to behold as they clutched their medals and trophy and posed for pictures. It’s going to be a great season for the Ramona Intra U14 boys!
Dave Shelton Memorial Tourament
All seven Ramona Intra teams participated in the Dave Shelton Memorial Tournament July 19th and 20th. Dave Shelton was held at Frances Ryan Park in Escondido. This was the first tournament of the season for many of the teams and for a few it was their first tournament as a new team. The teams played a variety of club teams from across San Diego and Orange County.
This is the first time that we can remember that all active Intra teams played in the same tournament at the same location. It was really nice to see the Intra name at so many different fields during the tournament said VP of Intra Leo Landgrave. This is something that we have been working on since last season and it was really great to see it finally happen.
Some teams will continue to do more preseason tournaments through August and Intra’s regular season will begin on September 6, 2014. Intra is very proud of all their players, coaches, assistants, managers and all the volunteers that make Intra possible. We would like to also thank all of those in Ramona who continue their support of these teams.
Intra BU16 Pegasus Cup Finalists
Ramona Intra Boys Under 16 traveled across San Diego County to participate in the 17th annual Pegasus Cup on June 28th and 29th. The first game in Poway against Aztecs FC Rodriguez ended in a 0-1 loss. Manager Leo landgrave said it was a well-matched game and the boys played very well. The second game was against Arsenal FC San Diego Elite and ended in a 0-0 tie. On Sunday Intra headed to Chula Vista and played Aztecs FC Garcia. Intra won that match 4-0. Intra placed 2nd in their bracket and advanced to finals Sunday afternoon. Finals took place at Pershing Middle School in San Diego. The pre-game started with a World Cup style entrance with the refs and both team walking onto the field side by side.
The boys faced Aztecs FC Rodriguez. The game ended in a 1-4 lose for Intra. Coach Ocampo said the boys played very well. We had a few players out with injuries and an undeserved red card from the morning game and we are hoping everyone is healed and ready for the upcoming tournament, which will be the Crusaders Cup July 5th-6th.

On June 21-22, Ramona Intra GU16 participated in the Kickin It Challenge uniting in the fight against breast cancer. This tournament was their first as a new team. The first game against Temecula United ended in a 0-1 loss with Temecula’s only goal coming from a penalty shot early in the first half. One Intra player was removed from the game with a broken wrist from an early fall. Their second game against AZ Galaxy was a very well-played and strong match that ended in a 2-2 tie. The girls last game on Sunday against Barstow Heat ended in a 0-5 loss. Coach Gabriel Ocampo stated that he was very proud of the girls and what they accomplished as it was their first tournament and they only had about a full month of practice. For some players this was the first time playing on a competitive team, but they played strong and showed their love of the game. The girls next tournament will be the Dave Shelton Memorial Tournament in Escondido.

The championship game between Intra and TMSFC Aztecs 00/99 was a great game that ended in a 2-1 loss for Intra.

U8 Girls All-Stars Win It All

A big shout goes out to all the All-Star teams for practicing so hard and doing an amazing job at the All-Stars tournament in La Jolla on December 7-8! Thanks to all the coaches that put these teams together and coached them up for the tournament. These great teams put an exclamation point at the end of an incredible year for Ramona Soccer League!
Season Ends With A Bang
Ramona weather doesn’t get any better than what we saw this weekend for the final games of Ramona Soccer League’s fall season. Teams celebrated the end of another great season with pizza parties, gift bags, cake and, of course, trophies for the top teams. All players went home with something for their efforts. Even if a team didn’t earn a trophy the league provided medals and pins to commemorate a fantastic season.
Some teams knew whether or not they’d be getting a trophy before the weekend started. But for others, they didn’t find out if they placed high enough to get a trophy until the games were played. That made for some exciting finishes and fierce competition. Even the top adult team, White Lightning, lost its first match of the season when the Blueberries got to them Sunday evening and spoiled their perfect record. However, in the end it was all about camaraderie, sportsmanship and fun and that’s where Ramona Soccer League always exceeds expectations.
Ramona Soccer League gave its support to those affected by breast cancer when the league declared October 26th, 2013 "Breast Cancer Awareness Day." We encouraged everyone to accessorize with pink as a reminder of breast cancer awareness and support for ongoing research to find a cure. Thanks to everyone that showed up sporting pink!

Also, we'd like to send out a big thanks to the Ramona Sentinel for the article they did concerning the RSL assets that were taken by some of last year's board members.
